The Territorial Information System (SIT) of the Region of Murcia comprises the source refererece database for spatial planning and sectorial policy guidance in this Region.

It is regulated by land law 1/2001, 24th April. The competence for its elaboration and permanent updating belongs to The Regional Ministry of Industry and Environment. The Directorate-General of Spatial Planning and Coasts is the entity entrusted with its management.

The Territorial Information System has been structured as a horizontal system, which contains a number of subsystems that use common georeferencing bases. It is a system in which each department of the Regional Administration generates and maintains information relevant to its competences. If they do not have their own subsystem then information can be submitted to the D. G. of Spatial Planning and Coasts for processing, the Territorial Information System thereby being the instrument that integrates and disseminates information of territorial importance.
